Kisoro is more beautiful than any picture can capture. Lush hills. Volcanic mountains. Farms and gardens everywhere. After an hour of 5-10mph driving that sometimes went up to 30mph, we reached the a Women 's Center where our contact Grace is a social worker. Along the way, dozens upon dozens of children waved, ran after our van and yelled 'Muzunga' which basically means white person. Reaching the Center, all the children of the village came out to see us. Soon impromptu lessons of Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, reading books, sharing photos from home and taking pictures and videos of the children- they laughed seeing themselves on our phones- filled the tiny school room at the Center!
After Grace took us to her house on the steep hill above the Center where she, Tianna, Dr Myers and Daniel (despite the Ugandan tradition that men do not cook) prepared us a meal of potatoes, rice, beans, tomato sauce and pasta. After we descended the steep hill on stone steps Grace's uncle had built in the darkness with the call frogs and insects around us with our phone flashlights showing us the path.
Tomorrow we visit a different school to deliver computers and teach word processing and educational internet games and then return to the a Women's Center to work with the children again.
You are all glorious, and I hope you're loving the glorious country!
