Katarara Day 1 & Random Fun

Today, we were swarmed by 675 children at Katarara Primary School. After introductions and songs in each of the classes, we made plans for tomorrow. Back in town, some went for a hike up a hill to see Congo and Rwanda in the distance. Others napped. Later, we visited the Virunga Cookstove Project that makes fuel efficient stoves that help reduce the need for wood from the forests and improves the health of people     . Using local volcanic rock, the stoves feed 300 students in schools and people in refugee camps.  Scrap rocks are carved into gorillas and used as their business cards. Several of us got carving lessons, too.  Day 2 at Katarara tomorrow!
