Update: Watkinson's first service learning trip to Uganda will take place this March during Spring Break! Our work will focus on conservation and service work with women and children:
-Volunteer at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary monitoring the endangered White Rhinos
-Teach in an elementary school near the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
-Volunteer in a women's clinic in the town of Kisoro in the southwest where UCONN runs a medical clinic.
-Conduct a comparative study of habitats on a safari in Murchison Falls National Park
-Conduct a rainforest species inventory while chimp trekking in the Budongo Forest
-Teach at the Good Shepherd Home and Kids of Africa orphanages
-Collaborate before and during the trip with students at the International School of Uganda
This trip is inspired by the Watkinson alum Amelia Maggio's '13 Senior Project where she volunteered at Kids of Africa in Uganda. We will continue her work there by teaching in the Kids of Africa school. Amelia's father, Chris Maggio, is the Head of School at the International School of Uganda. Applications will available the first week of Nov and due right after Thanksgiving.
